August 9, 2020

January 14, 2021 - noon

We were excited to facilitate an online workshop to offer a deeper understanding of current problems with immigration and immigration law in the U.S. For more information, along with the powerpoint and recommended readings, please visit the education tab of initiative page.

Opening Doors for Immigrants

February 23, 2020

MVIC hosted its very first public educational event - a workshop on sanctuary and asylum that was held at Miami Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. Over 75 dedicated and compassionate members of the Greater Dayton community came to listen and learn from a panel of speakers who have had experience with the sanctuary and asylum process, as well as a congregation who had recently declared themselves a Level 1 sanctuary church. Attendees left with a myriad of social action choices to take back to their own congregations and organizations.

Latinos Unidos, Black Lives Matter, NAACP, ABLE, and the ACLU are cohosting a lunch and learn Zoom webinar to explain surveillance technology in Dayton. An ACLU Freedom of Information Act Request revealed that ICE has purchased data from License Plate Reader vendors to enforce immigration laws all over the country, including in Cleveland. This webinar will give folks the opportunity to learn about technology being used in Dayton and ask questions about how the technology may impact you and your local community.

Justice for Immigrants

November 3, 2019

The Miami Valley Immigration Coalition was proud to be a part of this interactive immigration simulation that was held at Grace United Methodist Church and was organized by the Saint Paul UMC Hispanic Ministry. MVIC tabled and introduced the coalition while joining other speakers from local churches and organizations that serve immigrants in presenting to a passionate and interested audience.
