Sanctuary and Asylum
In response to the Coalition Sanctuary and Asylum Working Group’s call for congregations to offer sanctuary to immigrants in need, on November 17, 2019 Lower Miami Church of the Brethren declared their building to be a sanctuary. Supported by other MVIC partners, Lower Miami CoB will offer refuge if an immigrant or family requests safe haven in order to remain near their
family in the U.S., to prevent persecution or danger should they be forcibly deported or to continue to pursue alternative legal avenues to remain in the U.S.. Currently, a Sanctuary and Asylum Leadership Team is forming to coordinate our support of the sanctuary congregation with contributions of time, money and supplies.
